Review:

So, I love the concept.  The finale here is sort of a punt on whether the concept is a winner or not.  There is a suggestion that the AI is more reliable then anticipated and the humans are less.  I am mixed on what happened with Rand (a subplot which I found bitter throughout the series).  All things considered, this was a good young adult series and probably worth my time.

Review:

Some of the plot points in this book are really, really clear, but the ending I did not see coming.  Some of the teenage angst seems really manipulated, but, for the most part, I found this book better than the previous book in the series.  I really liked the development of how the AI operated and some insight into it.  All in all, an enjoyable book, but don't expect clever turns of phrase or any kind of complicated plot.

Scythe, Neal Shusterman

Scythe by Neal Shusterman is the first book of the Arc of a Scythe series.  I saw this in the library book store and it looked interesting to me.  I checked a quick review on the phone and decided to pick it up.  This is a young adult novel and I have no idea why I keep picking up young adult fiction these days.

Review:

I enjoyed this novel.  It is a coming of age story, but there is plenty else.  There is young romance and old romance and enough overlap to be interesting.  I like the way the dystopia plays out and the idea that everyone is effectively immortal so some people have to do selective killing in order to prevent over population is tenable.  I think it will be worth reading the whole series.
